Spatiotemporal gravity changes on volcanoes: Assessing the importance of topography
نویسندگان
چکیده
[1] Mass redistribution and deformation cause spatiotemporal gravity changes in active volcano areas. The ability of the gravity measurements to detect subsurface magma movement as a precursor to volcanic eruptions is greatly enhanced if gravity changes are analyzed and modeled jointly with ground deformation data. One effective tool for this analysis is provided by the gravity and elevation change ratio. The proposed numerical formulation allows to simulate a wide range of pressures andmass loads. However, the assessment of gravity changes is especially important when they occur without measurable ground deformation. In such a case it is very difficult to relate the gravity/uplift ratio to changes in subsurface mass movements by using classical models. In this work, we study the role played by pressure andmass sources in the interpretation of observed gravity/uplift ratio when deformation is negligible in volcanic areas associated with rough topographic relief. متن کاملLocalized gravity/topography admittance and correlation spectra on Mars: Implications for regional and global evolution
[1] From gravity and topography data collected by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft we calculate gravity/topography admittances and correlations in the spectral domain and compare them to those predicted from models of lithospheric flexure. On the basis of these comparisons we estimate the thickness of the Martian elastic lithosphere (Te) required to support the observed topographic load sinc...

A constrained nonlinear optimization method based on nonlinear programming techniques has been applied to map geometry of bedrock of sedimentary basins by inversion of gravity anomaly data. In the inversion, the applying model is a 2-D model that is composed of a set of juxtaposed prisms whose lower depths have been considered as unknown model parameters. The applied inversion method is a nonli...

[1] Changes in gravity due to volcanic loading of the crust are influenced by topography. We investigate the relative importance of topography and self-gravitation in the interpretation of gravity changes. It is shown that modeling of gravity changes can be more precise with the introduction of topographic relief, although it is neglected self-gravitation of the medium. This paper exploits this...

Drought is one of the natural phenomena which occurs in all climates in different parts of the world. Iran is located in the dry belt of the world. The increase of desertification, drought reoccurrence, and destruction by human in this geographical region needs more studies on spatial and temporal trend of rainfall. In this study, trends of climatic drought during 1975-76/ 2004-05 in seasonal a...
